The population of Antique as per 2000 survey of National Statistics Office (NSO) is placed at 472,822 of which 50.57% are males and 49.43% are females. This showed an increase of nine point fifty two percent (9.52%) from 1995 and 2000 (Census surveys are conducted every five years). The provincial growth rate was pegged at 1.84%. Basing on this survey and the growth rate the projected populaton of the province for the year 2006 would be 517,592.The population density based on the 2000 population is 1.87 persons per hectare. San Jose is the most thickly populated with a density of 10.85 persons per hectare.

The population of the province is the aggregate of the population of 17 mainland municipalities and that of the island municipality of Caluya. The settlement pattern consists of an urban center in each municipality called “poblacion” and an agricultural hinterland. The de Buenavista, the province’s capital. Urban dwellers are estimated to constitute 28.85% of the provincial population, making Antique one of the most predominantly rural province in the country.

As of 2006 based on the projected population, 50.64% (274,500) are males , and 49.36% (267,600) are female.
