The municipality of Valderrama is one of the interior towns of the province of Antique. It is geographically located within 112 04’ 00” East Longitude and within 10 57’ 00” North Latitude. The poblacion lies in the elevation of 50 meters above sea level and the highest peak of Mt. Baloy northeast of the poblacion is 1900m. It is accessible by land transportation from the province of Iloilo, Aklan and Capiz, but the shortest and convenient way is from Iloilo City which is approximately 150 kms. The total land area of 27, 379 hectares duly approved by the DENR Regional Technical Director on September 9, 1994 is the subject of Sangguniang Bayan Resolution NO. 89-95 (Resolution Strongly Condemning and Categorically Repudiating the Political Boundary Map of Valderrama Cadastry Cad. 942-D of the Municipality of Valderrama, Province of Antique prepared by the DENR Region VI and Demanding its Nullification and the Revocation of its approval) dated November 9, 1995. In the said Resolution, the Sangguniang Bayan has manifested its geographical/territorial claim of 34, 222.0000 hectares which until now has not been acted upon by agencies which were duly furnished by the said resolution. (See Table No. 1, Approved Cadastral Area and Under Protest Area). Of the approved area 27,379 hectares, alienable and Disposable (A & D) area comprises 7, 270. 7931 hectares representing 26.55% while the forest land comprises 20, 108.2069 hectares representing 73.44% (See Table No. 2 Land Classification). The topography of Valderrama varies from flat to rolling and rugged terrain. The northern portion which is the watershed of Paliwan, Cadian, Calumbanan and Cangaranan Rivers are timberland areas which are mountainous. Soil Based on the map of the Department of Agriculture Province of Antique, the municipality has three soil classifications, 1. The Alimodian Series, 2. The Umingan Series for Alienable and Disposable area, and 3. The Undifferentiated soil in the forestall area. The provincial boundary which is Northeast of the municipality is generally igneous intrusive and extrusive rocks that were formed in the tertiary period of the Cenozoic Era, while the central portion is generally sedimentary rocks that are formed in the middle of the tertiary period up to the quarter nary period. The Climate of the municipality consists of two types: type I, which has two pronounced seasons, Dry – from December to May and Wet – from June to November. Maximum rain period is from June to September. Areas characterized by this climate type are generally exposed to the Southeast monsoon and get a fair share of the rainfall brought about by the tropical cyclones occurring especially during the maximum rain period. Type II, has no pronounced maximum rain period with a short dry season lasting from one to three months. This type is intermediate between the proceeding two types, although it resembles the first type more closely because it has a short dry season. Areas of this climate type are partly shielded from the Northwest monsoon but are exposed to the Southwest monsoon and are also benefited by the rainfall caused by the tropical cyclones.
