Tibiao is an agricultural fourth class municipality located in the northern part of Antique. It lies 122 degrees, 03 minutes, 003 seconds east longitude and 11 degrees, 18 minutes, 00 seconds north on the latitude scale. The municipality is 75 kilometers north of San Jose de Buenavista - the capital town of the province of Antique and it is 73 kilometers from the northernmost municipality of Libertad. It is bounded on the south by the Municipality of Barbaza and on the north by the Municipality of Culasi; on the east by the mountain ranges of Madalag, Aklan and Jamindan, Capiz and on the west by Cuyo East Pass of the South China Sea. It is composed of a 2-hectare island popularly known as Seco Island and 21 barangays: 8 are classified as upland, 8 upland-lowland and the rest as lowland. Furthermore, four (4) of its lowland barangays and four (4) upland-lowland barangays are considered also as coastal. The municipality has a total land area of 17,742.1179 hectares as per cadastral survey. CLIMATE The climate of the entire municipality based on the distribution of rainfall is Type III. The seasons are not very pronounced but are relatively dry from November to April and wet during the rest of the year. TOPOGRAPHY AND SLOPE The topography of Tibiao varies from very steep hills and mountains to moderate steep to slightly rolling hills to almost flat or gradually inclined plains. 2,180.0620 hectares - are almost flat plains with 0-3% slope Or 3 meters high; 14,384.9921 hectares - are very steep hills and mountainous 1,177.0638 hectares - gently sloping to undulating lands SOIL Based on genetic and morphological characteristics, there are five (5) different types of soil in the municipality, to wit: 1. Umingan Sandy loam 2. San Manuel Loam 3. Alimodian Sandy Clay 4. Beach Sand, and 5. Mountain Soils (undifferentiated) Generally, Tibiao’s soil is predominantly of loam classification in its lowland which is suitable for rice and other crops. HYDROLOGY Tibiao River is the principal source of water for irrigation in the mountains and in lowland areas and the other source is from Dalanas River of Barbaza. A number of creeks, brooks, and waterfalls have supported some of its watershed areas. LAND CLASSIFICATION As per records of Community Environment & Natural Resources Office, Culasi, Antique about 60.01% of the land area of Tibiao is classified as forest land. Alienable and Disposable land accounted 38.01% and the remaining area is covered by rivers, creeks and roads.
