San Remigio is a third class municipality comprising of forty-five (45) barangays. It is bounded in the north by the municipality of Valderama, south by the municipality of Sibalom, west by the municipality of Patnongon and east by the province of Iloilo. It is twenty-one kilometers (21 kms.) away from the capital town of San Jose. It is a mountainous municipality with a total area of 33, 640 hectares, almost 70% of the total area are mountainous and 30% composes the flat lowland and rolling hills. Nature’s gifts so richly abound in San Remigio. The vast area of pristine forests, its impact on ecology eloquently transforms infinite gifts into a realm of tangibility, for mankind to conserve, explore and enjoy. The natural attributes of San Remigio reveal extremely interesting and of tourism distinction, anchored on nature’s treasures, foremost are the dense forest cover, the caves, falls, gemstones, wildlife, rich biodiversity of flora and fauna. The flower “Rafflesia” the largest flower of the world, the “Amorphophallus”, the tallest flower, standing proud at the height of seven feet, abounds in San Remigio which boosts the town collaborative effort to capture the world’s attention as an excellent tourist destination. Legend has proven since time immemorial, San Remigio has been the object of appreciation and destiny of mankind’s enduring quest for the beauty of life and its sustaining mechanism. The discovery of San Remigio by Juan Arangote, a hunter from Igbaras, Iloilo has devoid of expeditionary sophistications but by sheer courage of adventure to meet mankind’s universal necessity. The apparent interplay of destiny and adventure of wildlife hunter Arangote, who is in pursuit of a wild pig that abound in the jungles, illustrated the undeniable fact, that since then, San Remigio has been the land of milk and honey, exemplified by its peace-loving and hospitable people, the food laden mountains, the vegetable basket, and the freezening breeze amongst the distinction “Little Baguio” or summer capital of the province are in itself the heart and soul of tourism program. The hard-working and industrious farmers contribute a lot to the development of the town, through their day and night work in the farm in order to harvest better production of rice, corn, vegetables and other root crops. San Remigionhons also engage into livestock and poultry-raising as well as handicraft weaving and bamboo handicraft. Indigents also engage in cooking and selling different native delicacies and production of processed fruits and vegetables as one town one product of the municipality. Welcome….
