The Municipality of Sebaste is situated in the northern part of the Province of Antique. It is bordered in the South by the Municipality of Culasi and to the North by the Municipality of Pandan, to the west the Cuyo East Pass and to the east by the Municipality of Malinao. Between the Municipality of Malinao and Sebaste, there lie vast tracts of forestlands that contain some tourist attractions as well as diverse flora and fauna. The municipality is composed of ten barangays with a total area of 11, 164.02 hectares. Eight barangays is situated in the coastal areas and two are in the upland. Distance from the capital town San Jose de Buenavista is 110 kilometers. It has a population of 15, 840 according to NSO as of 2007. The municipality has a community hospital which is operated by the Local Government Unit. In Barangay Poblacion, almost every household is serviced by Level III water system that will extend in the barangays of the municipality and will be operational by 2010. The Municipality has following tourist spots that attract excursionists from nearby municipalities as well as foreign tourists. 1. Sebaste Inland Resort 2. Igpasungao Falls 3. Bong ao Cave 4. Kamalasag Falls 5. Sebaste Shoal Nito vine, being abundant in the municipality is made into handicrafts and recognized as the One Town One Product (OTOP) of the municipality. Every year, on the 3rd of February, people from nearby municipalities, provinces and balikbayans take time to go to the town of Sebaste for the Fiesta ni San Blas (Feast of Saint Blaise). The Municipal and Religious fiesta is celebrated from January 28 and culminates on February 3 which highlights the faith of Sebastehanons to its patron Saint Señor San Blas. |
