The Municipality of Libertad has a total land area of 9,700 hectares. It has 19 barangays and 14 of which are located at the coastal area. Its distance from the Provincial Capital, San Jose de Buenavista, is 147 kilometers while 77 kilometers away from Kalibo, Aklan or one-and-a-half drive through scenic and rustic towns to Libertad. You may also take a boat ride for a half-an –hour from Boracay Island to reach Libertad.It is bound on the northeast by Buruanga, Aklan and on the South by Pandan Bay in Antique. 

Libertad is a home of evergreen forests. That is why it is considered as the last ecological frontiers in the Philippines. Moreover, Libertad is part of the Northwest Panay Peninsula Biodiversity Council protected area.

As a 5^th Class Municipality, the principal products are fish, banig, copra, taho, silica, marble, hipgid, nito rattan and bamboo, dugos and charcoal. The main livelihoods of the people are mat weaving and fishing. Other sources of income are farming, handicraft, copra, and charcoal production, small scale mining (silica), taho production and honey production.

Libertad is also rich in natural resources and untouched tourists attractions conducive for adventure-tourism like caving and mountain trekking. There are caves potential for spelunking and guano production. These are Manggo-aw, Maanghit, Gi-ub and Balo caves. You can also enjoy the soothing and cold waterfalls of Pangitanan, Pandayan, and Kinyang.

There are eight (8) protected Marine Sanctuaries and coral reefs found in the Municipality of Libertad. Potential dive sites could really cater scuba diving and snorkeling. Assuredly, divers will really enjoy the fantastic underwater scenes with different amazing colors of coral reefs. Scuba diving activity does not only promote attractions but it can also augment the income of the Municipality.
